Production Roadblocks
Short, direct answers to the questions that most often stall independent productions. Each one points back to the workflow page with the full explanation.

What should I buy first as an independent creator?
Nothing until your story brief shows a gap. If you must choose, a better microphone placed closer to the speaker improves more productions than a new camera. See Tools Through Delivery.
Do I need to shoot in log or raw?
Only if you plan to grade. Log and raw preserve more highlight and shadow detail but look flat and need processing. A well-exposed standard profile is faster for short deadlines.
Which frame rate should I use?
Use 25 fps in regions with 50 Hz power, 24 fps for a film look, or 30 fps where mains power is 60 Hz. Keep one rate per project and set the shutter to about double the frame rate. See Capture with a Plan.
How loud should my final audio be?
Measure in LUFS. Broadcast under EBU R128 targets −23 LUFS, many streaming services normalise near −14 LUFS and podcasts are commonly around −16 LUFS.
What is a proxy file?
A small, easy-to-decode copy of your footage used for smooth editing. The editor relinks to the original files for the final export.
Which editing software is best?
The one that fits your platform, budget and collaborators. DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and Kdenlive can all finish a professional project. Compare them in Tools Through Delivery.
How do I back up footage on location?
Make two checksum-verified copies on separate drives before reformatting any card, then move one copy off-site, following the 3-2-1 rule.
How long should my video be?
As long as the outcome in your brief requires and no longer. We do not promise any length will grow an audience; clarity is what you control.
Can I use music I found online?
Only with a licence that covers your use. Check the exact terms, including attribution and commercial use. This is general information, not legal advice.
Are the interface images real software screenshots?
No. They are conceptual 3D renders made to explain workflows and do not show any specific product.
